What the Tip Calculator does

  • Calculates the tip amount, total bill, and split amount based on the values you enter.
  • Splits the total across multiple people and formats the result in the selected display currency.
  • Helps with everyday bill maths while recognising that tipping customs vary by country, culture, service type, and personal choice.

How to use the Tip Calculator

  1. Select currency and enter bill amount.
  2. Enter tip percentage and number of people.
  3. Click Calculate to see tip, total, and per-person amount.

Formula / methodology used

  • Tip = bill × (tip% ÷ 100).
  • Total = bill + tip; per person = total ÷ people.

Example calculation

£120 bill, 12.5% tip, 4 people.

  • Tip = £120 × (12.5 ÷ 100) = £15.00
  • Total bill = £120 + £15 = £135.00
  • Amount per person = £135 ÷ 4 = £33.75

Result: The calculator shows a £15.00 tip, £135.00 total bill, and £33.75 per person.

Common mistakes and limitations

  • The calculator only applies the percentage and split count you enter; it does not judge service charges or local customs.
  • It does not calculate payroll treatment, taxes, mandatory service fees, or legal obligations.

Important note

This is a general maths tool for tips and bill splitting, not legal, payroll, tax, employment, or hospitality-industry advice.
